8/3.....The weekend has actually been good Spots showed up on Thursday and have bit off and on all weekend....most leaving here pretty happy...Others cleaned their spots here and had the grill cook them for dinner....They have been a pleasant surprise to have....Not sure how long we are going to have the spots around I wouldn't wait around to long either way....as for the other fish....I have seen some flounder, blues and spanish, spadefish, black drum and even sheepshead....Seen something this weekend that not uncommon just not usual....Seen several guitar fish....sorry didn't get a picture...If I can get someone to slow down long enough to snap a picture I will....the rain and showers have been late late in the night....not running to many off....all in all a good weekend...sorry If you missed it....hopefully there will be many more to come.....

8/7.....It sure hasn't gotten any cooler...and the fish haven't been setting any records.....not many trying in the afternoons just to hot to be comfortable....nice crowds showing up after dark.....lots of spectators.....still muggy......small trout and flounder are being caught during the evening hours....there actually may be more fish in the day time just no one really cares to try it to find out....drink plenty of water....hopefully we will see you the weekend....

This Sunday is the last day to Pre-register for the tournament at the discounted rate....you can continue to register after that....however the price for all 10 categories will go up to $40.....Try and register soon and beat the crowd on Saturday .....

8/10.....Starting to see more mullet around...even hearing of a couple of flounder....still not alot to brag on but at least the weather seems a bit more toleratable finally cooling down some in the evenings with a breeze...the water is clearing up....We are on the Tournament countdown....6 days....The weather looks good for the weekend....I have ordered nice weather and lots of fish...its up to you to catch them...

8/22....I haven't forgot you....The tournament slowed me way down....still trying to catch up.....and now working on the tournament page with all the pictures....I have something I will post but be on the look out for changes....The wind is blowing and the fish aren't biting...we did catch 2 kings on Tuesday...and quite a few spanish and blues....not much since....drop me a line let me know what you think about the pictures....

8/24....The weekend hasn't been to bad....the wind has been blowing and the water rough....but there has been some spot, mullet and croaker's.....enough to fill a cooler.....no.... but enough you could have had dinner if you fished long enough.....the weather is much nicer today....the wind seems to have died down...the water has cleared up....but not hearing much from the fisherman......schools will be starting around here Monday/Tuesday...so should be a little quieter during the week .....come on down....

8/25....Its Monday...do I really need to say more....Quiet here threat of rain....but they caught spanish off the end today....not hearing of much else yet....a few mullet caught last night....

I received a phone call today that Ida Gibson a member of our pier family lost her battle with Cancer today....Our thoughts and prayers go out to her husband Gary and their three children and the rest of their family...visitation as I know it will be at Lowes Funeral Home in Burlington on Wednesday at 7pm....and the funeral will be at 11am on Thursday....should I hear of any changes I will let you all know....

Farewell Ida.....August 25th 2008

Look what we saw here on Wednesday....

8/31....Last day of August.....last night we had a few mullet and spots show up and a few people actually did ok fishing....over all still slow....there has been a lot of spanish caught lately most of them tooooooo small to keep....about ever thirty or so you catch you can probably keep one.....a few blues are mixed in not much else going on lately with the occasional sea robin and spadefish still around....a couple of small flounder...and small kings....caught one that was twenty four and three quarters inches long and one today that weighed 11.5 lbs.....did land one large puppy drum that measured thirty inches long that was released....over all still just that time of year....tonight the wind is tough and the water is rough....

9/3.....Believe it or not the water isn't that rough.....the weather is beautiful....the water isn't really clean and there are still some good size swells but considering its nice here today....lots of finger mullet and popeyed mullet running around the pier....spanish and blues showing back up again...spanish are still small....did manage to land a 24 lb king today...good job Mark!!....looks like we may have some wind and rain this weekend....have to wait and see....until then....

9/6....We survived another storm....just got sand blasted....I took a few pictures this morning around 7:30am thought you might enjoy....would have posted sooner but the phone has rung off the hook.....so let me answer you now....finally got a brave sole out there late this afternoon he told me the crabs wouldn't even steal his bait.....later a couple others showed ...still nothing ....the wind is still blowing and the water is rough as you will see in the pictures below....give it a couple of days to calm down....until then enjoy the pictures.....

The waves are a little rough ....Low tide was about 1 hour ago....

Sand is everywhere.....everything you touch is covered in sand even the fence....

Alot of white water....

9/7.....The water is much calmer today but the water is still dirty...still not hearing a great deal of fish being caught yet....a few are showing up (mullet, pompano, black drum, one to small puppy drum....)sorry still NO SPOTS!! the water temp is still warm....give it time....

9/9.....Mullet and pompano have started showing up a bit better.....some more blues are finally showing up also...a good mixed bag.....just enough to get you interested but not necessarily enough to keep you out there.....

9/10.....Blues are getting bigger.....still not a bunch going on .....I have seen more black drum around lately...still more of the same.......the rain set in early this afternoon and has run most everyone away.....As I sit here waiting for the clock hands to turn and update you....there is no one else even here and hasn't been for almost an hour now.....and I wont be far behind them....

9/11.....More Blues and more blues......The kids are doing great today....

seeing some pompanos on shrimp....and did see a couple spanish landed today....still no spots for all those who keep calling....

I'm giving you a heads up.... 2009 Season Passes will go on Sale Friday, September 26th.....be sure to try and get them before we close on Sunday, November 30th.....

9/14....More spanish and blues showing up....still catching pompanos during the day.....still hearing of some black drum and small mullet after dark....water is still warm....calling for some cooler nights here soon....that should help out.....have to wait and see.....did manage to catch a king on Friday.....lost 2 kings yesterday "Saturday"( or so they tell me.....) and landed one barracuda....At least things are picking up on the end....now if we can get those spots in here.....

9/16....Spanish are getting bigger....so are the blues when you can catch one....Caught a king today.....35 lbs ....Good job Adolfo.....seen more puppy drum today ....starting to see a few spots .....now its not a spot run....but tonight around dusk starting to see a decent number one lady had 12 spots another guy had 20......the air is cooler....looks like things are starting to line up....fish should be on their way.....stay tuned....

9/18....The weather was cool yesterday and the wind blew....today the weather is beautiful and warm...still a light breeze....lot of bait in the water not to many fish....have seen some black drum and pompano....and still a few blues and spanish around....should be sooooooooon.....

*Special Note....."A new North Carolina state record for Tarpon was set yesterday by Malcom Condie. He was fishing off the end off Sea View Pier at North Topsail Beach when landed the 193 pound fish. Condie was using 30 pound test line with a pop-eye mullet as bait. It took him under an hour to land the Tarpon. The previous state record was a 175 pound fish caught in 2005 by Jesse J. Lockowitz. 9/21....The weekend has been good...actually had a few spots show up....not enough to tell anyone to drive a couple of hours to get them....but they were here and around....there was a good assortment of fish this weekend saw puppy drum...black drum...pompano...bluefish...spanish....mullet...spots....flounder....and they have weighed in a king mac everyday....I hear tell they lost 2 today....things are starting to look better....nights are cooler....days are too.....keep checking in with us.....

9/23....The wind is blowing I meant its howling.....from the north east.....and its coooler.....but no I DO NOT HAVE ANY SPOTS yet.......still catching blues and spanish believe it or not and they landed a 37 lb king also....saw a mullet and a pompano....a heard tell of a hand full of spots but never saw any.....The wind is suppose to blow again tomorrow....have to wait and see....

9/26.....I didn't update because there was nothing to tell.....the wind was blowing a gale.....the water was rough...I had no fisherman to speak of...so I had no fish to report on ......so here are some pictures of the last couple of days........these were all taken from yesterday starting around about 5pm though this morning around 9 am.....

This is looking south ...see how the beach and sand is being washed away...the sand fence is gone....

This is looking north....again the beach is washing away.....and the debris that is left.....

The debris during the storm note the set of steps and handrails....many sets floated past the pier as we watched....

The next day....The beach is a mess.....

The waves were big and strong....water was washing up to the bottom steps...

Some of the crazy critters that were here with me during parts of the storm
Can you believe there were some brave surfers out there with all that debris???

Now today...they actually started catching fish this afternoon....lots of black drum....saw some big Croakers....(they must have gotten lost in the storm).....saw some small puppy drum.....even saw some spots....still not 2 at a time....but most seemed happy and the pier is filling up....now the water is dirty...lots of seaweed and trash still in the water.....but the waves have calmed down and the wind has layed down at least for the night....they are calling for a nice weekend.....

9/28......let me rant a moment to get it out of my system.....you call and I tell you "NO" the fish aren't biting......and you ask me the same question 3 different ways because you don't like the answer that they aren't biting.......so why is it when you call and I say "YES" the fish are biting you still question me like you think I might be misleading you?.....so for all you doubting Thomas'.....let me show you what is being caught this weekend on the pier....

....ok so here is the fishing report.....there has been spanish and blues.....SPOTS, mullets and pompanos.......Black Drum and Red Drum.....small flounder...and even croakers.....these are the fish I have seen personally....so when you call and I tell you a little bit of everything....you can say you saw a few too.....The weather has been beautiful.....the water not to rough....I don't know how long it will last...so come on while it lasts....

9/30....Ok seems like the spots have split....the pompano are still biting some......and spanish and blues are still around....the sea grass and sea oats arent as bad but the seaweed is.....the weather was beautiful yesterday...and overcast today...the wind was light coming out of the SouthEast.....to pretty for fishing....this evening I have heard of the occasional spot and mullet not near enough to brag about yet....but should it change I will let you know....
