2/7.....I saw ONE...nice size keeper Va. mullet.....now he doesn't count because we are not open....but the point is they are around....
2/19.....Dig out that tackle box......dust off that rod and oil that reel....might check the line while your at it.....I would hate for you to loose that monster sized va. mullet....that might win you that season pass because the line is to brittle.....
ok now its time for you to take notes and mark the calendar......remember to tell your neighbor, your fishing buddy, the guy at the place you stop and buy your bait....WAIT!!! your suppose to be buying your bait here.....just make sure to pass it along to anyone you think might be interested.......
The Surf City Pier will Re-Open Wednesday, March 19th at 6 a.m. The first Va. Mullet caught after that time will win the '08 season fishing pass!!
3/21.....I guess some of you might like to know what is going on around here.....I have finally gotten a chance to fill you in.....Wednesday we opened at 6am and had a pretty good crowd.... I would guess 30 or so people showed up....Allen caught the first mullet about 6:15am.....(I have some fisherman requesting a 30 min. head start before Allen is allowed to fish next year)....Congratulations Allen!!....we had va. mullet most of the day on Wednesday....the weather turned cooler on Thursday....not many fisherman or fish on Thursday....Friday has started out nice the weather is warm the pre-holiday crowd is showing up walking around and going out and doing a little fishing....early this morning there were a couple of mullet and around mid morning mostly skates and sharks with the occasional blow fish added in.....I have heard rumors of blues having been caught north and south of us.....the water looks to be somewhere around 58-59 degrees depending where you check and who you ask.....
We are ready for another exciting year....we have made a few changes on the inside.....expanded a few areas and did away with the game room.....hopefully you will like the changes.....I personally love it....We look forward to seeing you all soon.....Have a great Easter if we don't see you this weekend.....Try to update soon...
3/22.....Been another nice day....however the wind has been blowing......seeing mullet early early in the mornings and again late in the evening through the night......depending on who you ask some are doing great others so so......still lots of skates out there during the day....after the sun goes down it cools off quick especially with the wind blowing but if you can fight that chill you could probably get a good mess of fish if you wanted it........
3/26......Skates, rays, Puffers and sharks during the day.....lots of mullet at night.....the weather is cool.....and the fish are biting....come on down....
3/28.....This morning some of the guys and gals out there told me they had caught va. mullet, grey trout, a flounder, and blues overnight....along with the usual suspects of skates, stingrays and puffers.....Today we have had a great number of puffers......little meat but good to eat....The night time fishing still seems to be far better than the day time fishing .....however the weather is much nicer during the daytime hours verses the nighttime hours.....early morning is the calmest with very little wind and very little fish...but oh so peaceful.....the winds tend to pick up some time around 10:30-11 am and just gets worse from there.....
We had a surprise visitor today....Pat McCrory a Republican running for Governor stoped by for a short visit while on a five city stop....He had a chance to meet and speak with Edwin.....and then he took a walk out on the pier to meet a few of our fisherman.... One fisherman engaged him in a discussion with what some see as a problem with netters setting up near and around fishing piers....
