Return to whats biting

July 10th....the weekend was slower....and wetter for a change....kinda a nice change....still not many fish....

July 11th....the month is off and flying and feels like its half over and it has only started last week......the fish aren't doing much out there...starting to see a few flounder and speckled trout.....heard of a couple red drum.....fishing has just been really slow....the guys on the end haven't seen much action lately...they have hooked up with a couple of tarpon recently......the dog days of summer are truly here....

We are getting geared up for our 7th Annual Mike Martin Fishing tournament on Aug 13th and 14th....try to make plans to join us....the Children's Competition was a great success we had 250 children registered for that Competition the kids had a lot of fun and left with tons of prizes and gifts....hopefully we will have an equally as great tournament for all you big kids next month...just need to find some fish for that weekend.....

July 17th....seeing a little bit of everything just not seeing a whole lot of any one thing right now......seen some nice flounder....some really nice spadefish.....sheepshead are swarming the pilings.....even picking up a few of the smaller bait snatchers......spot, croakers, mullet, lizard fish and blues.....Finally had some cooler weather past couple of days but looks like the hot stuff is coming again....We are seeing really large groups of families coming out after dark for ice cream....come on out and join us for some cool refreshments.....the company is kinda nice

July 20th....All I keep hearing is the water is red....there is a seaweed/moss like stuff that is everywhere....fishing is slow....not hearing much....a few blues early....and one of those and one of these though out the day....typical summer fishing....this tropical thing isn't coming close but maybe it will stir something up to moving again...

Raffle tickets are on sale in the pier house for $2 a ticket....prizes are a 46" RCA Flat Screen T.V......Wii Gaming system with Mario ....and a Season Pass for 2012.....You can pre-register for the Mike Martin Tournament now at the pier the first 100 people who pre-registers for all 10 categories receives a t-shirt.....

July 23....The Pier family has had some troubles this week. Richard Mahala's house caught fire earlier this week and was a total loss. (waiting to see how we can be of help) ...and today Jay who works the morning shift with Terry and Clem suffered a Heart Attack this morning..he is currently at NHRMC in the ICU and doing much better this evening...say a few prayers for our families and friends...looks like we need them.

July 24th....Started out the morning with a small shower....nice way to start the morning....day was hot, humid, and beautiful......had another shower with lighting and boomers late this afternoon.....fishing is slow....unfortunately not really hearing of anything being caught ......cooler days will eventually return....

Jay is doing better....he has another scan scheduled for tomorrow to check for other blockages....if all goes well and no other complications he will be released tomorrow....please keep him and his family in your prayers .....

Aug 1st.....Its still hot out and about....as long as your moving slow don't seem so bad.....we had a good rain yesterday evening and has cooled things off ....started off overcast this morning and about 75 instead of 85......fishing is picking up some.....starting to see blues and spanish again....sounds like most of the spanish are on the king rigs but that is a start......seeing the assorted variety of summer fish....they are just not here in an abundance yet.....I would also like to remind you that we will be having our 7th Annual Mike Martin Memorial Fishing Tournament in 2 weeks on the 13th and 14th of this month....get your stuff ready for some fun....

Aug 4th.....I wish I had as much free time as some of you think I do….I have received lately nasty comments about updating facebook and the website.….what would you prefer I tell you …..a lie?....Fishing hasn't changed….its still hot the fish still aren't biting well…we do see the occasional Spanish…and still a flounder a drum a trout…not much of any one thing nothing is plentiful as I would prefer to tell you. Right now its not even skill so much as its luck. We have a Tournament in a week and a half…and I'm trying my best to make sure there is door prizes to be had and the free drinks and discounted food you have become accustomed to having...

I'm sorry If I'm not updating fast enough. I'm in most every afternoon at 2 call me I wont tell you a fish story Call the other members of our staff and they to will tell you the truth about what’s biting…we are not like other piers and shouldn't be judged by their behavior we are the Surf City Ocean Pier.

Aug 8th....HOT HOT HOT....there are about 6 cars currently in the parking lot....I have been asked were we open....there really isn't that many on the beach either....you can tell its August.....starting to put a new understanding to dog days of summer....

there are still a few spanish and blues around....seeing some flounder and pompano....just not much of anything else....

Tournament update......We have received donations from Batson's Galley, New York Corner Deli, Domino's, Max's Pizza, Loggerhead Inn, and Sherwin Williams...these guys and gals are some of the best....they always want to know how they can help ....if you get a chance please go by and visit these business and let them know how much you also appreciate them.....The Tournament starts this Saturday at 6am and is over at noon on Sunday..... I still have t-shirts and still will be collecting door prizes....come on out and register ahead of time and beat the crowds before the weekend.....see you soon.....
